Assistant/Associate Professor of Exercise Physiology

Position Description The Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences (NHS) in the College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) is seeking applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor with expertise in exercise physiology and exercise testing. The position carries an appointment of 50% research, 45% teaching, and 5% service.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish or maintain a nationally recognized human research program in exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, or performance assessment. Responsibilities include:
Conducting and publishing high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals.
Developing collaborative research with faculty at UNL and/or other institutions.
Presenting research findings at national or international scientific meetings and through invited presentations.
Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of specialization.
Advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, including serving on graduate committees.
Integrating research and teaching within the exercise physiology and exercise testing curriculum.
Department and University Environment The Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences provides a collaborative and research-active environment, serving approximately 1,000 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students. Faculty research is supported by NIH, USDA/NIFA, foundations, and industry partners, in partnership with the Office of Research and Innovation (https://research.unl.edu/).
The successful candidate will have access to shared laboratories equipped for assessing aerobic, anaerobic, and resistance-training responses in humans. Minimum Required Qualifications
Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or a closely related field at the time of appointment.
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in exercise physiology, exercise science, or a closely related field with potential (Assistant Professor) or established (Associate Professor) record of peer-reviewed publications.
Evidence of potential (Assistant Professor) or documented (Associate Professor) effectiveness in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in exercise physiology or related areas.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in aerobic exercise responses to complement existing departmental strengths in resistance training.
Evidence of the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary research teams.
Teaching experience in exercise testing and exercise physiology.
Evidence of pursuing external funding (government or industry) to support research and student involvement.
Demonstrated excellence in mentoring Master’s and Doctoral students.
