The University of South Carolina (USC) Arnold School of Public Health seeks applicants for a Clinical (Instructional) Assistant or Associate Professor position focused on teaching and mentoring graduate students in our Master of Public Health (MPH) degree programs (epidemiology; health promotion, education, and behavior; health services policy and management; and physical activity and public health). This position is located in the Department of Exercise Science, which is nationally and internationally recognized for its research contributions, outstanding masters and doctoral programs, large undergraduate program, and its contribution to physical activity and public health. Applicants must have a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in an exercise science, nutrition, or health-related field by the start date of employment (August 16, 2025), experience teaching and mentoring in a higher education setting, and a history of working in public health practice, ideally with relevant exercise, fitness, or nutrition experience.
This full-time, 9-month faculty position is being established at the departmental level to support teaching and student mentoring in our MPH programs. Those programs include a 16-credit hour integrated core curriculum that features interdisciplinary instruction. In addition to teaching and mentoring in the MPH programs, successful candidates will be expected to teach Exercise Science courses and continue engaging in public health practice to maintain professional connections and relevant community experience.

It includes six departments (Exercise Science; Epidemiology and Biostatistics; Health Services Policy and Management; Health Promotion, Education and Behavior; Environmental Health Sciences, and Communication Sciences and Disorders), six centers (Prevention Research Center, Center for Research in Health and Nutrition Disparities, Center for Health Services and Policy Research, Center for Public Health Preparedness, South Carolina Rural Health Research Center, and Speech and Hearing Center), and one institute (The Institute for Partnerships to Eliminate Health Disparities.) The School works closely with the University’s other health professions schools – the School of Medicine, the College of Nursing, and the College of Pharmacy.
