Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Heart Institute is recruiting for a BE/BC pediatric cardiologist with subspecialty training in cardiac imaging. Primary duties will be for children in need of cardiac imaging, including transthoracic, transesophageal and fetal echocardiography. The successful candidate would participate in a rotation with four imagers that includes transthoracic echocardiogram reading, transesophageal echocardiograms in the operating room and catheterization lab, and would be significantly involved in our new fetal program. In addition to echocardiography/fetal cardiology, further interests in CT, MRI, inpatient, fetal outpatient, research or teaching responsibilities can be accommodated. Other duties will include fetal outpatient clinic evaluations, sharing inpatient night and weekend call and occasional coverage of the inpatient service. Candidate will participate in research opportunities with supportive resources.
This is a full-time employed position with the Heart Institute, part of the multispecialty Memorial Physician Group. The position offers competitive benefits and a compensation package that is commensurate with training and experience. Professional malpractice and medical liability are covered under sovereign immunity.
About the Heart Institute at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Heart Institute is the largest and most comprehensive center for children with cardiac disease and adults with congenital heart disease in south Florida. The cardiac program is growing with 17 subspecialized hospital-based cardiologists, four cardiac surgeons, three nurse practitioners, three physician assistants and 17 community cardiologists.
All aspects of cardiology are provided by the Institute including cardiac surgery, diagnostic and interventional catheterization, transplant, fetal, electrophysiology, adult congenital and intensive care. Additionally focused programs include interstage monitoring, cardio-oncology, pulmonary hypertension, an aortopathy clinic, and cardiac neurodevelopmental service. With respect to non-invasive imaging, the Institute currently performs fetal, transthoracic, intracardiac and transesophageal (2D and 3D), as well as cMRI and CT studies. Currently, there are nine sonographers with a plan to hire two additional and a team of four dedicated cardiac imaging faculty. The number of echocardiogram studies over the past two years has grown by over 64%. The fetal program specifically has grown more than any other fetal program in Florida and will soon start a fetal cardiac intervention program – the only one in the southeast United States – in our recently developed Fetal Heart Institute of Florida.
The program at the Heart Institute is internationally recognized as a center of excellence for Pediatric (congenital and acquired) and Adult Congenital Cardiac Care, ranking for several years in a row and among the best 50 pediatric programs for cardiology/cardiac surgery by US News and World Report. The program is also a significant participant in the education and training of medical students and residents, with plans to start a pediatric cardiology fellowship program. Faculty is involved in research projects and protocols.

Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital (JDCH) is a 216 bed free-standing children’s hospital in Hollywood, Broward County, Florida located near Fort Lauderdale. The hospital recently underwent a 4-story vertical expansion to double the number of floors and continue to meet its commitment to providing the highest quality and safest care for children in the region. This expansion opened in November 2022 and includes a state-of-the-art Pediatric ICU, a new 20-bed cardiac ICU and step-down unit including new ORs with hybrid capabilities, three cath. labs and an interventional radiology suite. JDCH also has robust Neurosciences, Hematology/Oncology and other general and specialized surgical programs (approximately 10,000 surgeries per year), and the area’s largest pediatric and neonatal transport team, which also does mobile ECMO.
