The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) at the University of Washington offers an outstanding opportunity to join our Sports Medicine Section. We invite applications for two (2) Acting Assistant Professors to join an exciting and growing Sports Medicine team with long established national and international successes in the areas of sports medicine clinical care, education and research.
The successful applicants will be on a full-time, 12-month appointment (July 1-June 30) in the clinician-educator or clinician track. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2022, or soon thereafter.
The Department of Family Medicine is committed to promoting health equity and creating an inclusive culture that values each individual’s unique contributions. We are committed to building a culturally diverse faculty and strongly encourage applications from underrepresented backgrounds. The successful candidates will be expected to support the department’s commitment to incorporating Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) into every aspect of our practice.
This position expects that the faculty hired will participate in departmental activities for the Department of Family Medicine, while their clinical work will be focused on Primary Care and Sports Medicine. They are expected to participate in the teaching mission of the Department, especially as it relates to their clinical work and expertise. This 1.0 FTE position consists of clinical scheduled time (0.8 FTE) and administrative/teaching time (0.2 FTE).
The successful candidates will practice clinically at the UW Medical Center-Northwest Sports Medicine outpatient clinic practice sites and/or the UW Sports Medicine Center at Husky Stadium, with the potential to practice at other sites depending on need and interest.
Clinical duties will include direct patient care in a mixed practice model of both primary care and sports medicine. Total clinical time will be eight half-day clinics per week, as well as teaching, mentoring, and advising residents, fellows, medical students, and undergraduates. The specified clinical activities will always be contingent on availability of space.
The successful candidates will be expected to participate in the full spectrum of clinical practice including procedural and diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound. Other procedural opportunities such as radiofrequency ablation and Tenex are based on training background and the needs of the sports medicine section. Sport coverage opportunities will include local high school, youth, and club sports with the potential for growth over time. We also expect that the successful candidates will participate in clinical research and support the training of the new generation of family physicians and primary care sports medicine physicians.
