The Department of Kinesiology at San José State University seeks qualified candidates for a full-time, Assistant Professor position in Exercise Technology beginning in August of 2022. We especially welcome applicants who specialize in the following areas: use of exercise and sport technology among diverse populations, the use of exercise technology as related to health equity, data analytics and design thinking, and health equity and health infrastructures.
This position is a transformational hire for the Department of Kinesiology, and applicants will be required to develop coursework in the area of exercise technology at the undergraduate and graduate levels that introduce and enable students to apply relevant technologies including, hardware and software development and application, digital content creation, as well as wearables and health technologies in Kinesiology contexts. Adapting and enhancing kinesiology through technology is a natural next step in our department’s evolution within Silicon Valley. Specifically, ideal candidates will be knowledgeable about a wide range of exercise, sport, and health technologies, and the ways that social media applications are related to health and exercise. Applicants are encouraged to explore potential affinities with SJSU’s Department of Biomedical Engineering and complement existing partnerships with Human Factors and Ergonomics, both in the College of Engineering.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate an ability to develop new coursework related to technology in kinesiology, as well as the ability to teach other courses within the undergraduate, graduate, and general education programs such as Quantitative Research Methods, Measurement and Evaluation, Biomechanics, Motor Learning and Motor Development. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels with the potential for teaching excellence both within the classroom and through online modalities. In addition, applicants are expected to show scholarly promise in the form of publications in relevant journals, presentations at scholarly conferences, and the willingness to apply for external funding.
