The Department of Physical Education and Recreation (PER) at Gallaudet University invites applications for a Fitness faculty position (either Pre-Tenure Track or Tenure Track) in its undergraduate PER program. Among the responsibilities of this person will be to: Teach courses in the PER major with a concentration in Fitness; Assume the role of Director of a new Fitness Science Lab; and, Assist with student recruitment, student advisement, student development, and student retention.
Requirements: A doctorate degree in exercise science, kinesiology, physical education, adaptive physical education, therapeutic recreation, or related field OR a M.S./M.A. degree with the intention completing an approved doctoral degree within a five-year period from hire; and, prior involvement in teaching at the college level.
Candidates ideally should be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). For candidates whose ASL skills do not meet standards for tenure at Gallaudet, this includes commitment to significant time and effort over several years to develop the required level of communication skills.
Rank and Salary: Lecturer, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Appointment is for a nine-month academic year.
