Senior Rank Professor of Kinesiology:Physical Activity and Health Disparities Curry School of Education and Human Development
The Department of Kinesiology in the Curry School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for an Associate or Full Professor in the area of Physical Activity and Health Disparities. This is a salaried, 9-month tenured/ tenure track position.
Building on the premise that “exercise is medicine”, UVA's Department of Kinesiology seeks to hire a senior faculty member to advance the science and implementation of precision exercise and physical activity interventions aimed at improving health outcomes among individuals of different racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, or otherwise underrepresented groups. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in addressing physical activity disparities through targeted interventions, drawing upon social and behavioral science theories in an effort to positively impact broader health and wellness disparities among disadvantaged groups.
Applicants should have a significant record of scholarly productivity and research that clearly aligns with at least one of the three existing graduate program areas: Athletic Training & Sports Medicine, Exercise Physiology & Nutrition, or Kinesiology for Individuals with Disabilities.
Duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within the Department of Kinesiology. Additional duties include scholarship, advising, mentoring, and service activities.
Required qualifications and experience:
*A doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field; *Significant record of scholarly productivity, a proven record of obtaining extramural funding, and national standing in chosen discipline; *An established line of research in physical activity and health disparities and experience working with multidisciplinary research teams; *Knowledge of physical activity and exercise interventions in underrepresented groups and expertise in applying this knowledge in educational, community, or healthcare settings; *Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; *University level experience teaching courses related to Kinesiology; *An explicit commitment to and demonstrated accomplishments in teaching, research, and service that contributes to advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups; *Knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy appropriate for academically diverse learners and a respect for diversity and richness in human experience; *Candidates for the rank of Professor will have a record of substantial and sustained scholarly productivity, a national reputation for scholarship considered to be significant and appropriate to their discipline, and a proven record of obtaining extramural funding.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
Demonstrated ability to use technology in creative ways to teach courses related to Kinesiology.
