The College of Arts and Sciences, at Appalachian State University, part of the University of North Carolina system, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, nine-month faculty position to begin August 1, 2020. The appointing department will be the Biology Department and the academic rank will be appointed based on the credentials of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will have access to exemplary facilities, equipment, and scientific and technical personnel.
The successful candidate will join a nationally competitive research program centered on exercise, immunology, nutrition, and metabolism using a multi-omics approach (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics). Research may involve human clinical studies, animal models, and biochemical, physiological, and metabolic approaches.
Primary responsibilities center upon conducting significant research within Appalachian State University’s Human Performance and Biochemistry Laboratories located at the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC) in Kannapolis, NC (https://transforming-science.com/dhmri). Duties also will include promoting research collaboration with Department of Biology faculty, and professional service. Teaching responsibilities may include mentoring research at the undergraduate and graduate level. Other teaching duties are negotiable, including options for web-based instruction.
The majority of the duties associated with this position will be performed at the NCRC in Kannapolis, North Carolina. The applicant may also be requested to participate in meetings (supported remotely) and give lectures to the main campus of Appalachian State University, located two hours away in Boone, North Carolina.

Minimum Qualifications include 1) An earned doctorate, 2) A demonstrated record of scholarly activity and peer-reviewed publications in the biological sciences, and 3) Evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, securing external funds for research. Post-doctoral training or equivalent experience is strongly desired.
