Assistant Teaching Professor - Kinesiology (Applied Exercise and Health Option)
The Department of Kinesiology at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking an entry-level faculty member with expertise in the area of applied exercise and health. This is a full time, 9 month non tenure-track position with an excellent possibility of reappointment, which will begin in either Spring or Fall Semester 2020. The primary responsibilities will involve teaching undergraduate courses in our Applied Exercise and Health Option. This position represents an opportunity to join a progressive, multi-disciplinary group of faculty with a scholarly focus on human movement and physical activity. The Department of Kinesiology is a comprehensive academic unit spanning multiple domains of Kinesiology and offering B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. The Department is located within the College of Health and Human Development; an educational environment enriched by its considerable breadth, diversity of faculty expertise, and educational opportunities for students. The successful candidate will be expected to assume teaching responsibilities in the Department's newly-created, practice-oriented undergraduate degree option in Applied Exercise and Health. A terminal degree or a master's degree in Health and Physical Education Pedagogy, Fitness and Exercise, Coaching or closely related field is required for this position. Certifications and experience in the areas of teaching P-12 Health and Physical Education, fitness instruction or coaching is also required. Experience and knowledge working with youth, adolescent, and young adult populations and knowledge and experience with Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) America National (Physical Education) PE Standards, The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)/Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certifications are preferred. Also preferred is a commitment to professional preparation of health and physical educators and fitness instructors in diverse settings, technology integration in fitness and physical activity, meaningful collaboration with area professionals, and contributions to the field of health and physical education and fitness. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Opportunities exist to augment salary through summer teaching.
