The Department of Kinesiology in the Curry School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Education. This is a salaried, 9-month tenure track position in the area of Exercise Physiology.
We seek a scholar with a focus on physical activity/exercise intervention as a key component of health and well-being. Duties include participating in teaching, advising and mentoring, scholarship and service. The person who fills this position will be involved at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Kinesiology, in the Exercise Physiology Graduate Program, and in the Pan University Minor in Health and Well-Being. The successful candidate will also contribute to multi-disciplinary research efforts related to health and well-being outcomes associated with physical activity and exercise interventions.
Required qualifications and experience:
A doctorate in Kinesiology/Exercise Physiology or related field;
Knowledge of physical activity/exercise intervention in health and disease and skill in applying this knowledge in educational and health settings;
An established line of research in physical activity/exercise interventions in health and disease and experience working with multidisciplinary research teams;
Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students;
University level experience teaching courses related to Kinesiology/exercise science;
Demonstrated ability to use technology in creative ways to teach courses related to exercise physiology and exercise science;
An explicit and demonstrated commitment to teaching, research, and/or service that contributes to advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups;
Knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy appropriate for academically diverse learners and a respect for diversity and richness in human experience.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
Post-doctoral training in exercise physiology;
Demonstrated potential to obtain extramural funding.
