POSITION: Tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor APPOINTMENTDATE: 09-01-2019 RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as full-time tenure track assistant professor of Kinesiology; teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Kinesiology and/or other courses assigned by the department chair; the department is seeking to hire for teaching courses/subject areas related to strength and conditioning and/or related coursework. Other courses/subject areas may become available within the department; develop an active research agenda that leads to nationally/internationally refereed publications and presentations; seek external funding to support research agenda; direct graduate/undergraduate research projects provide service to the department, school, college, and university participate in professional organizations; advise students. Our program emphasizes experiential learning and is committed to the practice-to-theory-to-practice model of teaching. Successful candidates are expected to have a commitment to inclusive excellence, equity, inclusion, diversity and social justice; a passion for exercise and sport with well-developed understanding of the complexities of the clinical fields; a desire to contribute to a culture of inclusivity and diversity through teaching, scholarship or service; ability to provide leadership in teaching research or service toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment; a desire to work with students from diverse backgrounds; commitment to improving access to higher education for all students regardless of background, and; commitment to educating students to become global citizens REQUIREDQUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in Kinesiology, or closely-related field. Candidates who are ABD may be considered. PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated research experience and evidence of University-level teaching ability to successfully deliver undergraduate and/or graduate coursework with a specialization in strength and conditioning; practical experiences and research productivity in strength and conditioning or exercise science highly desired; certifications (ACSM, NSCA, BOC in Athletic Training). Department Summary / Department Overview The Kinesiology Department is housed in the College’s School of Professional Studies. The degrees offered include: B.S. in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Fitness Development, Coaching, and Sport Studies. A Master’s of Exercise Science degree is also offered. The proposal for a new M.S. in Athletic Training is currently being reviewed. The department has 26 full-time faculty members who readily engage their 800 students in teaching, research, and service activities. The department is member of the American Kinesiology Association (AKA) and recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). The Athletic Training Program is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training (CAATE). The department is characterized by a creative and collaborative faculty who foster learning through innovative classrooms, symposia (e.g. Sports Medicine), research, and service learning within the classrooms and in the community. The department actively promotes equity, inclusion, diversity and social justice, incorporates various approaches to transformational technology, and has accessible, unique, laboratory equipment to provide the necessary experiences to meet student learning objectives. It also has several student clubs (Athletic Training, Dartfish, FIT) that provide avenues of student growth within and outside the department. Internationally, the Kinesiology Department has affiliations with colleges in England, Germany and Australia. Several students have gained excellent learning experiences through these transformational opportunities.
